Swami Swarupananda Paramhansadeb - BABAMONI

Bankim Chandra Gangopadhyay (nickname Baltu), son of Satish Chandra Gangopadhyay and Mamata Devi, was born on 22 December 1885, Bengali 1294 (Many disciples/followers believe that dob 26th December 1899, 12e Pous 1306 B.S. Tuesday) at Chandpur, Dist.Chandpur, Bangladesh (Chandpur, Dist. Kumilla, undivided India). [ Pous maser 2nd Mangalbar is his birthday, english date may not be true, picked up from calender.]

The story of Babamoni's birth is as miraculous as his life. After he was born, there was not any visible indication of life in the body of that newly born baby, which lay like a lifeless entity for as many as seven days at a stretch. On the eighth day, when the father of the infant became sure that his son was indeed alive, then only he told his relatives about the birth of his son. The wonderful and harmonious combination of Jyanyoga, Karmayoga and Bhaktiyoga that we find in the life of Babamoni lead us to imagine that as if God was equipping the little infant with all the armours of good qualities during those seven days in order to ensure his success. This extraordinary incident of his birth goaded Babamoni to take the pledge – before he started his life of divinely ordained activities – " My life is for everyone. So long as I stick to this conviction, I stay in my true nature and I remain Swarupananda. "

Since Childhood Baltu was religious in nature and his favorite game was meditation with friends. He sat motionlessly under the tree at the lonely ground at Chandipur village. (Now in DhakaBangladesh, )

After he passed with distinction from Pogos School in Dakha, he came to Calcutta and took admission in Surendranath College. . His book "Karmer Pathe" and "Atmagathan o Brahmacharya Prasango" made tremendous impression amongst the freedom-fighters. Many of them used to keep these books and gave importance as well respect equivalent to "THE GITA". As a result Baltu was arrested many times but ultimately freed from the custody, as the British Government failed to establish any unusual matter inside these books. Once the country was independent, Bankim Chandra Gangopadhyay took formal vows of Sannyas on the occasion of Maha Kumbha at Haridwar from Mahamandaleshwar Jayendra Puri who named this new disciple as Akhanda Mandaleshwar Sri Sri Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Deva. However, his followers used to respectfully address him as 'Babamoni'.

OMKAR Bigrahaa Babamoni dedicated his entire life to work & worship. His selfless love was visible in all his actions. He was generous beyond measure and had a truly divine sense of humor. He inspired by example, and to see Babamoni performed Samabeta Upasana created a desire in the blessed observer to also worship the Divine. To hear him chant filled with the bhava of inspired enthusiasm, creates a desire in us to learn the mantras; to watch him, sparks a desire to experience that same depth of absorption.
Like a master craftsman, he utilised all the tools of chanting: mantra, pranayam and asana; with focused attention and profound respect, he transformed every ritual into an offering of love and surrender.
His deep love, his intuitive understanding and his spiritual experience is evident in every bani and books. He not only wrote books, but he was a living testament to its ideal and philosophy. He brings to life every character within the scriptures with such intensity, that we begin to realize that these very same characters exist within us. We then are able to learn how we can purify ourselves until we, too, realise our own Divinity!
In fact, Babamoni has not gone anywhere. Babamani is still with us even now because Babamoni is everywhere. The passing away of Sri Sri Babamoni is indeed an irreparable loss not only to the Akhanda Samaj, but to the entire spiritual world at large. The void is impossible to fill. He was a Master of all systems of Thought. Numbering around Hundred, constitute the invaluable legacy he has left behind to the entire spiritual world. To read his books, the majority of which are the outcome of his extempore unpremeditated discourses, is to set oneself in tune with the Ultimate Reality. It is our privilege to bring to memory the life and teachings of this spiritual saint and savant, a deeply unassuming, unostentatious and humble soul, in whose mere presence one experienced a deep silence and peace which emanated from him as fragrance from a flower.
On 21th April, 1984, he left this mortal body for the heavenly abode in the lap of the spirit. Mahaprayan - 21st April, 1984 ; Mahasamadhi - 27th April, 1984.
